Information on Azerbaijan-Bangladesh Bilateral Relations

Brief information:

Bangladesh recognized the state independence of Azerbaijan on December 30, 1991. The diplomatic relations between two countries were established on February 26, 1992.

High level relations:

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Md. Abdul Hamid, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the country's national holiday- Independence Day on March 19, 2015. 

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Md. Abdul Hamid, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Ramadan Holiday on July 17, 2015. 

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh  on the occasion of the Ramadan Holiday on July 17, 2015. 

• The Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan Republic Samir Sharifov congratulated Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Ramadan Holiday on July 24, 2015. 

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Md. Abdul Hamid, the President of the Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the New Year on December 24, 2015. 

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the New Year on December 24, 2015. 

• The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan E.Mammadyarov congratulated Mr.Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Independence Day on March 25, 2016. 

• The President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Md. Abdul Hamid congratulated Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the national holiday- Republic Day on June 29, 2016.

• The Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina congratulated Artur Rasizade, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the national holiday- Republic Day on June 29, 2016.

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Md. Abdul Hamid, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Eid Al-Adha on September 6, 2016. 

• The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Eid Al-Adha on September 6, 2016. 

High level bilateral visits:

• Muhammad Faruk Khan, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh participated in the 2^nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue on May 29-June 1, 2013 in Baku.

• Dipu Moni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh paid an official visit to Azerbaijan, was received by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, had meetings with E.Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Sh.Mustafayev, Minister of Economy and Industry, O.Shiraliyev, Minister of Health, F.Nabiyev, Chief of the State Migration Service, on June 11, 2013 participated in the Conference of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Cooperation Organization for the financing strategic development plan of the Holy City of Al-Quds. She signed 2 MoUs during the visit.

• The request of the High Commission of Bangladesh to India to support the representative of Bangladesh at the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women dated June 26, 2014 was accepted by Azerbaijan in exchange to support from Bangladeshi side for the candidature of Azerbaijan in the elections for the World Heritage Committee in 2015.

• Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Finance Minister visited Baku on May 2-5, 2015 to participate in the 48^th Annual General Meeting of the Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Cooperation in humanitarian field:

• The Azerbaijani government has provided $ 200,000 assistance to Bangladesh under the UNESCO program of capacity building of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

• The Government of Azerbaijan expressed its gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh for the support of the candidature of Azerbaijan to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the term of 2017-2019 on June 14, 2016.

• S.Shahriar and M.Qazi from Bangladesh travelled to Azerbaijan on July 10-20, 2016, as a winners of competition "What do I Know about Azerbaijan" held by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan.

• S.Ahmed from Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the Executive Education Program for African and Asian Countries "Caspian Basin Studies" held by ADA University in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 23-30, 2016, in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In January-June 2015 trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh was

$ 585,17 mln.
