Ambassador of Azerbaijan presented his credentials to the President of Maldives
H.E. Mr. Elchin Huseynli, non-resident ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Maldives, presented his credentials to H.E. Dr. Muhammad Muizzu, the President of the Republic of Maldives, on September 9.
During the reception held after the official presentation ceremony, the President congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his work. He expressed his satisfaction with the state of friendly relations between Maldives and Azerbaijan and said that there is great potential for further expansion of relations.
Ambassador E. Huseynli conveyed the greetings of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to President Muhammed Muizzu.
Expressing his gratitude for the greetings, President Muizzu, in turn, asked him to convey his greetings to the head of our state.
During the conversation, it was noted that mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Maldives in bilateral and multilateral formats is successfully continued. Information was provided on the global initiatives carried out by Azerbaijan during its presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2019-2023, the work done on the institutional development of the organization, the humanitarian and financial assistance provided to more than 80 countries, including developing small island states such as the Maldives.
The ambassador said that as the host of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan in November, our country pays special attention to the problems caused by climate change for small island developing states, in order to reach an agreement that meets their needs and priorities. He pointed out that he made maximum efforts and gave wide support at the national level.
President Muizzu appreciated the efforts of Azerbaijan as the host of COP29 and said that he accepted the invitation of the President of Azerbaijan to participate in the Summit of World Leaders on Climate Action and will attend this important global event.
Within the framework of his visit to Maldives, Ambassador E. Huseynli also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zamir, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Nasir Ibrahim, as well as Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim. At the meetings, views were exchanged on relations in political, economic, tourism, air connection, cultural and educational fields, as well as issues related to COP29.
